Blessing's father tragically passed away, leaving her and her four siblings in the care of their grandmother after their mother abandoned them. The grandmother, who relies on casual work, struggles to provide for the family while ensuring that all the children can stay in school. Currently in grade 7 at a local Primary school. Blessing faces numerous challenges every day. The toughest part for her grandmother is managing to balance their educational needs with the necessity of putting food on the table. About Blessing's Home: Makueni
Makueni County is a part of Southeastern Kenya generally known as Ukambani. The climate is usually hot and dry making farming a challenge and food supplies short. The main diet in these areas is corn products, beans, some fruits and green vegetables such as kale when the weather permits. The main language spoken is Kikamba and the primary religion is Christianity though there is still much traditional superstition and a recent influx of Islam.
