Overview
Biography
Monicah is a sweet and friendly young girl. Sadly she has passed through many troubles even at her young age. Monicah’s mother lived an immoral life and after contracting HIV/AIDS, she left her children in the care of other family members. Today it is not known whether she is alive since she has been gone for a number of years. After the mother left, Monicah stayed with her very old grandmother for some time. However, the grandmother was also not able to take care of her and sent her to a Muslim Children’s Home. After several years there, Monicah’s aunt who was staying with her younger sister brought her home to stay with them. She has determined to keep food on the table for them but educating the girls is a burden she is not able to manage and the local Primary school has allowed them to be there without paying for the time being. We believe with the support of a friend, Monicah will be able to overcome the challenges she faces and become a blessing in her generation. Would you be the one to walk with her?
About Monicah's Home: Makueni
Makueni County is a part of Southeastern Kenya generally known as Ukambani. The climate is usually hot and dry making farming a challenge and food supplies short. The main diet in these areas is corn products, beans, some fruits and green vegetables such as kale when the weather permits. The main language spoken is Kikamba and the primary religion is Christianity though there is still much traditional superstition and a recent influx of Islam.
