Biography

Jacinta is a bright and friendly girl from a humble background. She has just finished high school where she was the leader of the Christian students there. As the firstborn in her family, she is determined to set a positive example for her four siblings despite the traditional practices and beliefs they were born into (you can see the marks burned into her cheeks). Her parents face challenges in paying her school fees due to their own lack of education and opportunities. With aspirations to join a university next year rather than going back to the village, she is at a critical point. Jacinta desires to be equipped and empowered to serve her generation in a better way. Would you be the one to stand with her?

About Jacinta's Home: Kajiado

Kajiado county is located in the southern part of Kenya, known for its diverse landscapes, rich cultural heritage and safari animals. The main language spoken there is Maasai and the typical diet includes mostly animal products and some green vegetables. Many in Kajiado would consider themselves believers but are still buried in traditional practices such as FGM, child marriage and polygamy. It is a great challenge for those who are true believers to break free from these practices as there is opposition from family and community. As in other parts of Kenya, traditional beliefs remain and Islam is growing quickly.
