Donyo Sabuk Feeding Program - An Introduction
In the heart of Machakos county, Kenya, a beacon of hope shines brightly for the children of Malandini slum. The Daily Light feeding program, initiated by Rev. Martin Mann in 2020, has been a game-changer for the community. What started as a response to the desperate needs of slum children during the height of the covid-19 pandemic has blossomed into a thriving ministry, nourishing both body and soul.
Rev. Martin Mann's vision for Daily Light was sparked by the alarming rate of theft in the town, perpetrated by children from Malandini slum. Desperation and lack of provision at home had driven these young ones to seek sustenance by any means necessary. Recognizing the root cause of the problem, Rev. Mann decided to take action, establishing a feeding program that would provide for the physical needs of these children while also sharing the love of Christ.
The Daily Light program has been sustained by faith. Since Martin passed away in 2021, we're often unsure of where the next month's supply will come from. Yet, time and again, the Lord has provided, demonstrating His faithfulness and care for the vulnerable. This miracle has been repeated month after month, allowing the program to continue serving the community. We're especially grateful to other ministries such as His Glory Ministries and churches in the US and Canada that have made this possible.
Every week, from Monday to Saturday, around 300 children gather at the mission base to receive a meal of rice with beans, lentils or cabbage. On Saturday, there is even a special provision of chapati! As they eat, they also receive Bible teaching, which has become an integral part of the program. Over the course of a year, these children are taught:
1. 52 Life Skills: Essential skills to navigate the challenges of life, from communication and teamwork to problem-solving and decision-making.
2. 12 Doctrinal Issues: In-depth studies of key Christian doctrines, each consisting of six lessons, to ground them in their faith.
3. Close to 200 Bible Stories: Engaging narratives from the Bible, sharing the love and redemption of Jesus Christ.
The Daily Light program has had a profound impact on the community. Local authorities have expressed gratitude for the decline in crime around the market, attributing it to the fact that young people now have a safe and nourishing environment to spend their afternoons. Instead of terrorizing the market in search of a meal, these children are fed and receive the Word of God.
The Daily Light feeding program is a shining example of God's love and provision. We invite you to join us in this ministry, supporting the physical and spiritual needs of these precious children. Your contribution will help us continue to provide meals, Bible teaching, and life skills training, empowering them to become agents of positive change in their community.
